Oh those crafty Germans! I was amazingly surprised to find that my Cetrotide comes in its own little container with prefilled syringe, power vial, both large and small needles and two alcohol wipes made in Germany. I checked and I suppose this is better than wipes made in China as this whole kit is packed in Germany.
But is it really necessary to send my drugs to me in one neat little package all together and tidy? It feels entirely too “lunchable” for me.
As I start thinking about it all my IVF OCD starts kicking in and I remind myself how the liquid from any refrigerated shots burn. I cant always wait for room temps to arrive. I don’t want to open every package up but I am 100% positive that I do not want to use COLD needles to shoot myself up with this drug! I then have to go on to figure out if I have enough left over needles from the other IVF attempts to use instead of the ones in the package and what is it exactly that I am refrigerating here? The powder vial with the drug? Or the liquid in the syringe? I don’t get drug makers on either continent. Why all of the crazy packaging? Clearly they’ve not spent any time researching WITH the end user. Come on EMD Serono… just cause us IVF-ers need a prescription for your crap doesn’t mean you shouldn’t spend some time and realize we don’t want to use cold needles! This packaging isn’t as “cute and cool” as your marketing folks told you it was.
Here’s the good news about Cetrotide straight from their marketing folks:
CETROTIDE is not habit-forming.
CETROTIDE is not expected to impair your ability to drive or to operate machinery.
And my personal fave: “All medicines can have side effects. Sometimes they are serious, most of the time they are not. Do not be alarmed by this list of possible side effects.”
• redness, itching, swelling of the injection site (these are usually mild and short-lasting)
• feeling sick (nausea)
Oh yeah. Things to look forward to. Cant wait.
